The Fiat 500, also known as the Cinquecento or Bambino, is a classic car that was first produced by the Italian car manufacturer Fiat in 1957. It quickly became a popular choice for urban drivers due to its compact size and fuel efficiency. The car was in production until 1975, and then again from 2007 as a modernized version. The Fiat 500 is known for its distinctive design and charming character. Its rounded shape and cheerful colours have made it an iconic symbol of Italian automotive history. The car has been featured in numerous films and has a dedicated fan base around the world. Almost 4 million units of the classic Fiat 500 rolled off the line between 1957 and 1975. The first types 500 N and 500 D had the so-called suicide doors, the later types F, L and R came with doors that open normally. During the production of the different models of 500 a few coach builders and car manufacturers also produced different versions of the 500. The best-known ones are Autobianchi, NSU and Steyr Puch with the Steyr Puch 500, Steyr Puch 500D, and Steyr Puch 650 TR. Today, the Fiat 500 is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike. Restored and well-maintained examples can fetch high prices at auctions and are prized for their rarity and unique style. With its simple mechanics and easy-to-work-on design, the Fiat 500 is also a popular choice for those who enjoy restoring classic cars.
