Johnny's Classic Fiat Project
I found a Seat 600 in reasonable condition
I bought my first Fiat when I was 18 and I have always been a car enthusiast. After my retirement I looked for a hobby where I could learn new things. I found a Seat 600 in reasonable condition that tightly painted and didn't need much work at first. After a while, the engine started leaking oil, fuel and coolant. I first took it to the garage around the corner but their knowledge of old-timers turned out to be limited and they could not help me. Therefore I decided to make the repair myself even though I never worked on such an engine before. I gained a lot of knowledge with the help of books, videos on YouTube and a good friend who is a car mechanic.
Take lots of photos
My advice for restauration and repair is to take small steps and always try to rule out causes. Another tip is to take lots of photos, I take a picture of every step. This helps a lot with putting the various parts back. I have been buying my parts from FD Ricambi for years. They have the advantage of a one-stop-shop and they have many parts in stock. This way you don't have any shortcomings.
Everyone is proud of their Classic Fiat
Later I also bought a white Fiat 600 next to my Seat 600. I use this Fiat on a regular basis and like to participate in Classic Fiat tours here in the area. The contact with other Fiat oldtimer owners is very nice. We have a wonderful time together and talk a lot about how to repair and restore our classic Fiats. This way you gain a lot of knowledge. You can see that everyone is proud of their Classic Fiat and the restoration work they did.
